  • Eat only healthy fats: Remember good fats don’t make you fat. Avoid seed oils which cause cholesterol and inflammation.
  • Count Carbs, not Calories: Get good carbs from your veggies. STOP: bread, rice, grains, potato and refined sugars.
  • Sustainable change: It does not help if you go a couple of months and quit.

May 2013 – 85.4kg & gaining

Sorry about the bad photo, but I would not allow people to take photos of me as I felt so ugly and sick. this is me at a training workshop, in soooo much pain.

The specialists tell me there is nothing more they can do for me – I might make Christmas. They will do their best to keep comfortable!

  • Fasting Cholesterol was 8 and I was reacting negatively to the medication.
  • BP 185/135 Medication could not regulate it well enough.
  • Kidney Function GRF: 25%
  • Hashimoto’s (Thyroid Autoimmune) & heart flutters.
  • Oedema
  • Doctors decide to stop all medications immediately, except the Thyroid medication.

I am in serious pain and discomfort. Life was extremely difficult and uncertain. 2 months out of hospital, I started to help myself with the basics of Banting.

May 2014 – 75kg & losing

Banting for 1 year – doing my best with my limited knowledge. I am alive and life seems possible!

  • Fasting Cholesterol 5.9 (no medication).
  • BP 135/85 (no medication)
  • Kidney Function GRF: 50%
  • Hashimoto’s (Thyroid Autoimmune)
  • Heart flutters: on medication for irregular heart beat (thought to be a side effect of the medications previously taken)
  • Oedema: Greatly reduced

June 2015 – 68.5kg & losing

Here I am on the Knysna Beach. Swollen from the 16 hour drive, but celebrating no wrinkles. (Mindset: celebrating no wrinkles rather than commiserating over being swollen.)

  • Fasting Cholesterol 5.2 (no medication).
  • BP 118/75 (no medication)
  • Kidney Function GRF: 55%
  • Hashimoto’s (Thyroid Autoimmune)
  • Irregular heart beat: on medication, under control
  • Oedema: Greatly reduced despite the sitting in a car for so long

August 2016 – 63.3kg & still improving

My health is under control. I am living my dreams!

  • Cholesterol 4.6 @14:30pm (Non Fasting)
  • BP 110/74 (no medication)
  • Kidney Function GRF: 62%
  • Hashimoto’s (Thyroid Autoimmune)
  • Irregular heart beat: on medication, under control
  • Oedema: only shows up if I cheat!

Deciding to Bant was the best choice I ever made.
